A Day in the Life of our Finance and People Manager

For our ‘day in the life of’ blog series, we are shining a light on the person who keeps the Rare: Group machine running day to day, our Operations Administrator, Dionne Rice. We wanted to know what life is like for Dionne at Rare:, how she juggles the many different aspects of the company and what she likes to do in her spare time

What is your role as Finance and People Manager?

I work closely with the Directors and across all departments at Rare: supporting the team members and ensuring the day to day running of the business is seamless, especially whilst we are working from home at the moment.

My day to day is pretty lively from dealing with financial aspects of the company (making sure everyone gets paid on time is very important) to implementing new processes and procedures as we continue to grow but also making sure our company culture remains at the core of everything we do.

What is your background?

I’ve always worked in roles where the objective is to focus on the bigger picture and help people achieve their end goals.
Before I joined Rare:, I worked in the creative industry mainly in the music sector where I had a really varied career working in marketing, for a production company, managing producers and artists to working as a tour manager. All my roles have been fast paced, people focused and involved being super organised, all of which is needed in my role at Rare: Group. So I guess I’ve always been in a role focused around people and it’s what I love to do!

Probably one of my favourite jobs (aside from Rare:) was when I was a teenager, I worked in a traditional sweet shop  - we sold everything from homemade ice-cream to traditional scottish tablet. I guess that’s where my sweet tooth comes from!

What is life like at Rare:?

No two days are ever the same at Rare: as there are multiple areas of the business to juggle.. We are a growing team so there is a lot of energy and different characters who work in the team but that’s what makes it unique, we all bring something to the table and help with evolving Rare: together.

What are your hobbies/interests outside of work?

Spending time with family and friends and going to live music shows. I am an avid reader, and have a lot of sweet treat chats with fellow Rare chocolate lovers Hannah, Sam and Gawain.

Describe Rare: in 3 words

I would describe Rare: as inspiring, good banter and chocolate lovers (okay, so that’s 5 words).
